Mantrailing

Mantrailing Training is a 24-hour, three-day course for handlers and dogs.  Four hours of classroom instruction includes, but is not limited to: Scent theory; scent article selection and management; proven training techniques; training records; canine communication; problem solving; physical conditioning; equipment and gear, and more.

Twenty hours of field training provides handlers with one-on-one training with professional instructors. All field-training exercises are tailored to the skill of the individual dog/handler teams participating.  Learn correct starting procedures, proven training techniques, how to avoid common handler mistakes, building and shaping drive, developing an ID, lead handling, as well as how to read your dog’s signals.

Mantrailing Training provides all dog/handler teams, regardless of previous experience, with a sound comprehension of Mantrailing.

Prerequisite: None

Target participant: Anyone interested in the mantrailing K-9 for law enforcement, Search and Rescue or sport mantrailing.

Requirements: A dog is not required for participation. Attendees are expected to be in capable physical condition to perform required field training assignments.

Mega Trailing Week

The Mega Trailing Week is designed to take dog/handler teams from their current level of training and lay out a map for advancement that will produce results.  Going well beyond the usual 2 or 3 days of training that generally leave handlers barely able to recall what they were just taught, the EXTREME K-9 Mega Trailing Week provides accurate assessments of participating teams, and offers one-on-one instruction with seasoned instructors during 6 days of extensive field work.  Field work includes, but is not limited to:  problem solving, building solid and articulable ID’s, reading your dog, developing reliability on the trail, and much more!

Evenings will be spent with guest speakers, training videos, and lectures.  And yes, there will be night trailing also.

Prerequisite:  None.  This course will be open to all, from the beginning handler/dog team, to the seasoned veteran.  Class size will be limited to maintain a student-instructor ratio of 5 to 1.

Human Remains Detection (HRD)/Cadaver

This 3-day, 30-hour course examines the skills needed for locating human remains. One-on-one instruction, guidance and demonstration provide the students with individual attention. Foundation training, building the alert, passive vs. active indication, handling of training aids, pseudo scent and crime scene preservation are just some of the topics covered in this course. All skill levels are accepted. This course can be helpful to a dog team just starting that wants to obtain a solid foundation, or to a dog team wishing to refine their skills.

Air Scenting (Wilderness Strategy)

This 4-day, 36-hour course challenges handlers to expand their skills and capabilities in air scenting strategies in the wilderness environment. One-on-one instruction, guidance and demonstration provide the students with individual attention. Scent theory, demonstration of scent movement, map segmentation, GPS and map software are just part of this seminar. Participants will learn how to teach the dog to do a reliable re-find and will be presented with challenging air scenting problems in the field.  Handlers at all levels of training are encouraged to take this seminar. Intermediate to advanced dogs will be used on full scenarios. All handlers will be able to watch each dog work the individual scent challenges presented.

Remote Collar Training

All dogs deserve good training and training is best when it makes learning easier for your dog.   Communication is the key.  Dogs are not like people, they have a language all their own. Our years of training experience helps us to recognize and articulate issues between dogs and handlers, and will assist you in learning to communicate meaningfully with your dog.  Learning our method of remote collar use is just as important for the pet owner as it is for the working dog handler.

EXTREME K-9’s method of training is humane, gentle, motivational and effective.  Your dog’s obedience is a must, but we never forget the importance of a great attitude. Happy dogs make happy handlers – it’s how we do things at EXTREME
K-9.

Come and learn EXTREME K-9’s cutting-edge approach to dog training and how you can bring out the Genius in your dog.  Demonstrations will be given in Obedience, K-9 Patrol work, Search work and Agility.

Motivation, confidence and accuracy in the working dog are the mark of a properly utilized remote collar method.  All remote collar trainers are not alike and the disgrace of ancient practices serves as a stark contrast to our method of remote collar use. Far from being a ‘last resort’ method of training, we believe that wise use of the remote collar combined with a solid understanding of the way dogs learn is a recipe for excellence for every serious dog/handler team.   Our belief that the proof is not in what you hear, but what you see, and for this reason, we always demonstrate our own dogs. We are also capable of demonstrating our methods with any dog at any time and are ready, willing and able to explain how we do what we do.   Instructor/Trainers Behesha Grist, Jack Shuler, Mary MacQueen, and Doug Williams are trained specialists in remote collar use and regularly conduct remote collar training seminars and courses nationwide and in Canada.

Basic Obedience

Consistent, trustworthy K-9 obedience is essential in working dogs and companions alike.  From simple obedience exercises like come, heel, sit, down, and stay, to practical pleasures like your dog waiting at every doorway going in or out; loading/unloading from a vehicle only on command; going to a designated spot and remaining there until released; sitting and downing from a distance; reliable recall every time; off-leash control (under distraction) within days; civilized behavior with other dogs; and sitting calmly at your feet while conversing.

At EXTREME K-9, we believe that the mark of a well-trained dog is that other people enjoy it.  Call for a free evaluation and demonstration.

Behavioral Problem Solving

Problems such as jumping, chewing, digging, car-chasing, unwanted aggression, dog aggression, counter-cruising, extreme barking, fear biting, excessively shy/fearful behavior, bolting, nipping, leash pulling, toy/food aggression, and housebreaking are all within our ability to improve. Give yourself a break and give your dog a chance to learn a better way to live.  Call for a free demonstration.

Retriever Training

Retriever training has never been more enjoyable for both dog and handler.  A dependable retrieving dog displays great enthusiasm, goes out hard and deep, is responsive to directional commands from great distances and demonstrates both reliability and passion in its job.  Using wisdom, motivation and sound training techniques, EXTREME K-9 is very proud of our results.  In both competitive retrieving as well as a sound understanding of the role of the retrieve in the working dog, EXTREME K-9 has proven to bring dogs to a higher level of intensity and reliability.

Handler Protection/Narcotics Detection Training

Extreme K-9 has a policy of providing this training to law enforcement personnel only.
